b is length of the base.

As per the question, base is x and length of two equal legs is 3x - 2

Opening the brackets,

  • 6x - 4 + x = 52

Combining like terms,

  • 6x + x = 52 + 4
  • 7x = 56

Dividing both sides by 7,

  • x = 8
