Why does order of addition not matter?

2 + 3 = 5

3 + 2 = 5

It doesn't matter the order that I add the numbers. I still get 5.

Addition

Addition is the operation that we perform when we add two numbers together.

The thing to remember abour this operation is that it's commutative.

That means that a + b is the same as b + a. We can swap the terms and still arrive at the same answer.

Which is why 5 + 2 = 2 + 5, or 7 + 3 = 3 + 7.
