x + 35° = 180° ( subtract 35° from both sides )

the exterior angle of a triangle is equal to the sum of the 2 opposite interior angles.

x is an exterior angle of the triangle containing y , then

y + 10° = x , that is

y + 10° = 145° ( subtract 10° from both sides )

y = 135°
