Answer: discrete

Example:

The random variable counting the number of people going to a certain movie is a discrete random variable. It takes on the values 0,1,2,3,... which are nonnegative whole numbers.

The characteristic of a discrete random variable is that there are finitely many values between two fixed endpoints. For example, the subset {3,4,5,6} is finite.
