2y = - x + 9 ( add x to both sides )

x + 2y = 9 → (1)

3x - 6y = - 15 → (2)

multiplying (1) by 3 and adding to (2) will eliminate y

3x + 6y = 27 → (3)

add (2) and (3) term by term to eliminate y

(3x + 3x) + (- 6y + 6y) = - 15 + 27

6x + 0 = 12

6x = 12 ( divide both sides by 6 )

x = 2

substitute x = 2 into either of the 2 equations and solve for y

substituting into (1)

2 + 2y = 9 ( subtract 2 from both sides )

2y = 7 ( divide both sides by 2 )

y = 3.5

solution is (2, 3.5 )
