Suppose the end of the world has arrived. You are in the middle of Oakland and most of buildings are rubble or on fire. One lonely building remains: Baskin Robbins Ice Cream Shop. You enter and a tired, defeated employee looks at you from across the counter. You notice only two flavors of ice cream left--Chocolate and Vanilla. There's only about a scoop of each.

"There's not much time. Choose one. We can eat our choices and count down until it's over."

It doesn't really matter which one you choose...or does it?

Answer the following questions in your response (250-500 words).

1. What are some of the factors that determine your choice?

2. Do you feel like you had the freedom to choose between the two? Why or why not?

3. Many researchers don't believe we have free will. Do you agree or disagree with the assertion that we are merely rats in cages?

Answer:

I would choose vanilla. I am choosing vanilla cause honestly I really don't like chocolate icecream. I think vanilla has more flavor compared to chocolate. I believe I had the freedom just because i wouldn't choose chocolate anyway. Also I am being given the opportunity to choose it never said I was forced to choose a certain kind. I disagree to an extent. Ads for instance influence our thoughts to make it more desirable to buy things. That's not necessarily a choice because we are subconsciously being told to do it. But I also think we have mi ds of our own and if you have some control over urself no one can make you do anything that you choose not to.
