If you were counting chromosomes in the gametes and the somatic cells of a giraffe, what should be the ratio of the number in the former to the number in the latter?.

Answer: Gametes are haploid (half the chromosomes) somatic cells are diploid. 1:2.

Explanation: If the giraffe is 2n=30 its gametes are n=15, half of the somatic cell's chromosomes. So, 1:2. Also, n means chromosome number, by the way, if it's 2n it's diploid, if it's n it's haploid.
