Andrew had some money. He spent $220 of his money on a pair of shoes 3/5 of his remaining money on a soccer ball. He had 1/8 of his original amount of money left. What fraction of his money was spent on the soccer ball

Answer:

m - ($220 + (3/5)(m - $220)) = (1/8)m

m - ($220 + (3/5)m - $132) = (1/8)m

m - ($88 + (3/5)m) = (1/8)m

(2/5)m - $88 = (1/8)m

(11/40)m = $88

m = $320

(3/5)($320 - $220) = (3/5)($100) =

$60 on soccer ball

$60/$320 = 3/16 of Andrew's money spent on soccer ball
