Given equation :

√(x - 2) = 4

Squaring both sides

( { √(x - 2) })^(2) = {(4)}^(2)

x - 2 = 16

Move all terms containing x to the left, all other terms to the right.

x = 16 + 2

x = 18

Verification:

Put value the x in the given equation.

√(x - 2) = 4

√(18 - 2) = 4

\sqrt {16} = 4

\sqrt {4 * 4 } = 4

4 = 4

Hence, The answer is 18.
