In the given figure we can see that it is a right angled triangle .

Where,

Perpendicular is 18

We have to find the length of the longer log i.e base (value of x)

Here we are given perpendicular and we need to find the base.

Also we have been given the value of theta = 60°

Using trigonometric ratio :

tan
\theta = ( P)/(B)

As per the question we have base = x

Plugging the required values,


\tan60 \degree = (18)/(x)


\sqrt3 = (18)/(x) \: \: \: \: (\because tan 60\degree = \sqrt 3)

further solving ..


x = (18)/( √(3) )


x = (18)/(1.73)


x = 10.4

Therefore, The value of shorter leg is 10.4
