During a time of economic turmoil, the British were taxing Americans despite them having no representation in British parliament. Not only were colonists experiencing the effects of the economic downturn, they were deprived of money than wasn’t even used to benefit them. Britain further proved itself to be dangerously selfish and corrupt. Americans felt they had no way to intervene other than to declare independence.
