Each of the boys (is, are) hoping for a chance to play

Is "is" or "are" correct?

Answer: Are

This is basic language skills, in a sentence where your ending off with boy-“S” you wouldn’t use the wrong pronunciation with “is” so saying the sentence
“each of the boys are hoping for a change to play” sounds more natural then if you were to say “each of the boys is hoping for a chance to play”

If it was singular.. “the boy” you would use is
