Answer: 5.5 Miles

Explanation:

15 minutes is a quarter of an hour, so divide 12mph by 4, and you should get 3, that is how many miles bicycle one has traveled from the starting point. For bicycle two, also divide 10mph by 4, and you should get 2.5, that is how many miles bicycle two has traveled from the starting point. Since they both went in opposite directions, you will add both of their distances traveled from the starting point to get their total distance away from each other!

3 + 2.5 = 5.5 miles
