−2n − 3 < −9

First, we can get rid of the -3 by adding it to both sides.

−2n − 3 < −9

+ 3 +3

The three's cancel out, and -9 + 3 = -6.

Now we are left with −2n < −6.

We can divide -2 from both sides.

−2/-2 n < −6/-2

The two's cancel out, and -6/-2 = 3.

However, since we divided by a negative number we must flip the sign.

The final product is n > 3.

Place an open circle at 3.
