A solid carbon steel shaft has a diameter of 30 mm and a length of 300 mm , determine the first critical speed of the shaft due to its weight ? assume the shaft is divided into two segments ? . B). What would be the shaft critical speed , if a gear of mass 10 kg is placed at shaft mid span? assume the shaft mass is also placed at mid span. C) what is the maximum deflection of the shaft ?

For Part A)
The first critical speed (Wc) of the shaft due to its weight is 297.7 rpm

For part B)
The new shaft critical speed, when a gear of mass 10 kg is placed at the mid span, is 287.7 rpm

For part C)
The maximum deflection of the shaft is 0.868mm

This is all based on the formula Wc= (pi*D^2) /(3.13*L) where Wc is the critical speed, D is the diameter and L is the length
