2 29. A man travels from Town A to Town B at an average speed of 4 km/h and from Town B to Town A at an average speed of 6km/h. He takes 45 mins to complete the whole journey. Using the algebraic method only, find the distance between Town A and Town B.​

Explanation:

distance divided by rate = time

d / (4 km/hr) + d/ (6 km/hr) = .75 hr (.75 is 45 minutes)

d/4 + d/6 = .75

3d/12 + 2d/12 = .75

5d = 12 * .75

5d = 9

d = 9/5 km = 1 4/5 km = 1.8 km
