Answer:

The smallest composite number is 4

Explanation:

The composite numbers are those that have more than 2 factors (1 is a special case)

Meaning they can be divided by more than 2 numbers to give a whole number e.g. 45 can be divided by 5 to give 9 and so on

To find the smallest composite number, let's look at the smallest numbers,

2: 2 has factors 1 and 2(itself) hence it only has 2 factors so it is not composite

3: It can be divided by 1 and 3 (to give whole number) hence since it has only 2 factors ( 1 and 3), it is not composite

4: It has factors, 1, 2, 4, (since 4/2 = 2 which is a wole number) Since 4 has 3 factors, Hence it is a composite number

So, the smallest composite number is 4
