What is the reason German Unity day celebrates reunification on october 3 instead of June 17 or November 9th.
D: June 17 was only celebrated as Unity Day in West Germany
The reason June 17 was initially chosen AS the official date for German Unity Day has to do with its marked anniversary of the 1953 East German uprising against communist regime. After the bonding back together of east and west germany in 1990, the decision was officially made to make october 3 as a official date for Germany Unity day.
The reason behind this is because October 3rd was the day when former East Germany officially joined the Federal republic of germany, which is lead to create a unified version of germany.
