The answer is:

2 × 2 × 3 × 3

Work/explanation:

The factors of 36 are:

4 × 9

But, these are not prime factors so we break them down even more :

2 × 2 × 3 × 3

This is how we write 36 as a product of its prime factors.

We could also use 6 × 6, then:

2 × 3

2 × 3

2 × 3 × 2 × 3

Rearrange from smallest to largest:

2 × 2 × 3 × 3

Once again we get the same answer.

Hence, that's the right answer.
