Work/explanation:

Since the inequality says that the absolute value of x wil be greater than 3, we have the following.

Remember that in |x|, x could be positive or it could be negative.

So we have x > 3 and we also have -x > 3 which becomes x <-3 once we divide each side by -1 and reverse the sign.
