The Hiking Club is taking another trip. The hike leader's watch shows that they gained 296 feet in altitude from their starting position. Their altitude is now 285 feet, but there is no record of their starting altitude. What is the the starting altitude of their Hiking Trip

Answer:

The starting altitude can be calculated by subtracting the gain in altitude from the current altitude.

Starting altitude = current altitude - gain in altitude

Starting altitude = 285 feet - 296 feet

Starting altitude = -11 feet

Based on this calculation, it seems that their starting altitude was below sea level, which does not make sense. However, since there is no record of their starting altitude, it is possible that there was an error in the watch or that the hike leader did not reset the watch to zero at the starting point.
