What is an improper fraction for 1 1/2

It is 3/2 :)

For this it is 1*2 (1 1/2) = 2

and 2 (from above) + 1 (1 1/2) = 3

Work/explanation:

The fraction is:


\sf{1(1)/(2)}

This is a mixed number.

I start by multiplying 1 times 2 (the whole part by the denominator):


\bf{1\frac{\sf{1}}{\bf{2}}

Obviously I get 2. Now I add the numerator, 1. I get 3. That's the numerator of the new fraction. As for the denominator, it stays the same.


\bf{(3)/(2)}

Hence, the answer is 3/2.
