why is rapid population growth in a poor nation a major onstacle to economic development and a higher standard of living?

In a poor nation it is common for there to be lack of food and facilities so if the population of the poor nation increases then there would be more mouths to feed and since they already have lees than enough themselves how can they provide for others but if the country is poor and the population is low they they can easily facilities the citizens which makes a huge impact to the standard of living
