Answer:

d ≈ 1.41

Explanation:

given 2 parallel lines in the form y = mx + c

then the distance d between them is

d =
(|c_(2)-c_(1)| )/(√(1+m^2) )

the 2 lines have equation in the form y = mx + c

y = x + 3 and y = x + 1

with m = 1 , c₂ = 1 and c₁ = 3 , then

d =
(|1-3|)/(√(1+1^2) ) =
(|-2|)/(√(1+1) ) =
(2)/(√(2) ) ≈ 1.41 ( to the nearest hundredth )
