Answer: approximately 254.34 square feet

Work Shown:

d = 18 = diameter

r = d/2 = 18/2 = 9 = radius

A = area of a circle of radius r

A = pi*r^2

A = 3.14*9^2

A = 254.34

The pool takes up approximately 254.34 square feet of area. Use more decimal digits of pi to get a more accurate answer.
