Answer:

\large \boxed{x = (2)/(3) }

Explanation:

Goal

  • Solve the equation for x-term.

Given

  • Equation

\large{16 - 4(x + 3) = 2x}

Step 1

  • Distribute/Expand 4 in the expression.

16 - 4x - 12 = 2x

Step 2

  • Isolate x and combine like terms.

16 - 12 = 2x + 4x

Step 3

  • Solve the equation for x-term

4 = 6x \\ (4)/(6) = x \\ (2)/(3) = x

Step 4

  • If you are not sure that the answer is correct, I suggest to check the answer by substituting the value of x in the equation.

16 - 4x - 12 = 2x

Substitute x = 2/3 in the equation.

16 - 4( (2)/(3) ) - 12 = 2 ((2)/(3) ) \\ 4 -4( (2)/(3) ) = 2( (2)/(3) )

Evaluate

4 - (8)/(3) = (4)/(3)

Move -8/3 to add with 4/3.

4 = (4)/(3) + (8)/(3) \\ 4 = (12)/(3) \\ 4 = 4

The equation is true for x = 2/3. Hence, the solution is x = 2/3.

Hope this helps! Any questions about the answer can be asked in comments.
