The portion of the expedition after Magellan's death sailed farther than the portion with Magellan in command.

Ferdinand Magellan led the first expedition to circumnavigate the world, but he was killed in 1521 during a conflict with a native tribe in the Philippines. After his death, the remaining members of the expedition continued sailing westward across the Indian Ocean, around the Cape of Good Hope, and back to Spain, completing the first voyage around the world. The voyage covered a total distance of approximately 52,000 miles (84,000 kilometers), with the majority of the distance being covered after Magellan's death.
