I began by reading the novel Romeo and Juliet and making a prediction about how the story would end. This prediction was that Romeo and Juliet would die together in the end.
From there, I made inferences about Romeo’s and Juliet’s characters and their motivations, including why they felt so strongly for each other despite being from opposing families. I also examined the events in the play to understand how their love caused conflict between their two families and how that could lead to their untimely deaths.
I then researched the author and other related works to gain further insight into the motivations behind the novel. From there, I was able to gain new perspectives on the characters and the trajectory of the plot. Furthermore, I studied the language, structure, and symbolism to learn more about how the story was crafted.
This led to me making predictions about why characters acted the way they did, and it deepened my understanding of the themes of love, violence, and fate. I was also able to draw on the history of the period to make more accurate and informed predictions about the fate of Romeo and Juliet.
Inferences:
- Despite being from rivaling families, Romeo and Juliet’s strong love for each other led to their untimely deaths.
- The events in the play created a cycle of violence and revenge between the two families.
- Romeo and Juliet’s love transcended societal barriers, which created both tragedy and hope.
- Fate was an important theme in the novel, and the characters’ ill-fated relationship ultimately led to their downfall.
- The author’s use of language, structure, and symbolism conveyed potent themes about love and violence.
