Events A and B are dependent because the probability of A and B occurring together (P(A and B)) is not equal to the product of their individual probabilities (P(A) * P(B)). If A and B were independent, then P(A and B) would be equal to P(A) * P(B). Since they are not equal, A and B are dependent events.
