Computational design and modeling - Computers allow engineers to design complex mechanical systems virtually through computer-aided design (CAD) software. They can model how different components will interact and perform simulations and stress analyses before actually building prototypes. This has vastly increased the efficiency, speed and accuracy of the design process.

Computer-controlled manufacturing - Computer-controlled machines like CNC mills, lathes and 3D printers are used to produce mechanical components with extreme precision. This level of precision and automation would not be possible without computers.

Sensors and data collection - Mechanical systems are now instrumented with a wide variety of sensors that monitor parameters like temperature, pressure, vibration, load, position and speed. Computers collect and analyze this real-time data, enabling condition-based maintenance and performance optimization.

Advanced modeling and simulation - Computers have enabled engineers to create sophisticated multi-physics models and simulations that integrate fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, structural analysis, controls and other disciplines. This has led to breakthroughs in complex systems like engines, robots and prosthetics.

New technologies - Many of today's revolutionary mechanical technologies like drones, robots, self-driving cars and prosthetic limbs rely on advanced computer control systems, sensors, actuators and artificial intelligence. These technologies would not exist without computers.

In summary, computers have transformed nearly every aspect of mechanical engineering, from the design process to manufacturing to data collection to advanced modeling and simulation to new technologies. The computational capabilities and information processing of computers have truly revolutionized what is possible in the field.

Hope this helps explain my choice! Let me know if you have any other questions.
