Act V of The Tempest is the final act of the play. The act begins with Prospero revealing his true identity to Alonso and the other nobles, who are shocked. Ariel brings in Caliban, Trinculo, and Stephano, who have been punished for their attempted mutiny. Prospero forgives them and frees Ariel, who is grateful and promises to serve him faithfully. Prospero then gives a speech in which he announces his intention to give up his magical powers and return to Milan with his friends. The play ends with Prospero's final monologue, in which he asks the audience to release him from their thoughts and imaginations.
