Step-by-step explanation: When a number is surrounded by these (|...|), that means the number is an absolute value such as | 1 |. Absolute values are ALWAYS POSITIVE no matter if it's negative inside, this means | 1 | = 1 and | -1 | = 1. But, if the absolute value is negative on the outside such as -| 1 | this would be -1, therefore -| 1 | = -1 and -| -1 | = -1. Also, 1/3 is 0.333333333334 as a decimal and 1/5 is 0.20 as a decimal, therefore 3
(1)/(3) is 3.33 and 3
(1)/(5) is 3.20 or 3.2.
