A science class has a total of 32 students. the number of females is 14 less then the number of males. how many males and how many females are in the class?

Explanation:

Let the boys be x

Girls = x - 14 (number of females is 14 less than the number of males)

x + x - 14 = 32

2x - 14 = 32

2x = 32 + 14 (add 14 to both sides or if 14 crosses over the bracket. The sign changes to plus or positive)

2x = 46

Divide both sides by 2

x = 23

Girls = x - 14 = 23 - 14

=9

Therefore, The boys are 23, while the girls are 9
