The mean of a, 31, 42, 65, and b is 51.  The greatest number is 67 more than the least number.  What are the missing numbers? Please explain.

Because the average of the five numbers is 51, the sum of the five numbers is 255.

a+b+73+65=255

138+a+b=255

a+b=117

a+67=b

Therefore,

a=25

b=92
