Ernest L. Blumenschein and Bert Geer Phillips were artists who decided to live in Taos, New Mexico, in the early 20th century due to the region's unique landscape and cultural heritage. They were drawn to the vibrant colors and natural beauty of the area, as well as the rich history and traditions of the local Native American communities. They founded the Taos Society of Artists in 1915, which helped to establish Taos as an important center for American art.
