Explanation:

0.7x + 9 = 2x - 1.4

9 + 1.4 = 2x - 0.7x

10.4 = 1.3x

10.4/1.3 = x

x = 8

Check:

0.7*8 + 9 = 2*8 - 1.4

5.6 + 9 = 16 - 1.4 = 14.6
