In chapter 2 of The Outsiders, S. E. Hinton makes a point of showing that Two-Bit and Marcia have a similar sense of humor and that Johnny and Ponyboy get along well with Cherry Valance. Why does the author include these details about the characters?

to show that the Socs and the greasers have many things in common
to show that some of the Socs aren’t egotistical and mean, while some are
to show that the greasers are able to get along with complete strangers
to show that these three greasers are more easy-going than the other greasers

i believe it’s to show that some of the the Socs aren’t egotistical and mean, while some are. Because while some some of the Socs believe they are higher up and better. These Greasers are still able to get along with these Socs. Meaning that the Socs have no problem being friends with someone that is “below” them. Showing that they are not egotistical like the others.
