a segment joining the midpoints of two sides of a triangle ( midsegment) is half the length of the third side.

7x is a midsegment , then


(1)/(2) (17x - 18) = 7x ← multiply both sides by 2 to clear the fraction

17x - 18 = 14x ( subtract 14x from both sides )

3x - 18 = 0 ( ad 18 to both sides )

3x = 18 ( divide both sides by 3 )

x = 6

Then

7x = 7 × 6 = 42
