Marcus said that the first expression 3x + 2 was equivalent to the second expression 4x -1 because if x = 3 they result in the same number. His friend Joseph said they did not qualify as equivalent expressions because he used a different value for x. Who is correct? EXPLAIN your reasoning.

Answer:
Marcus is correct

Explanation:

If x=3 then 3x3=9 and 9+2=11
and 4x3=12 12-1=11. Both are equivalent
so Marcus is correct.
