Tropical Cyclone Eloise was a powerful storm that hit Mozambique and other parts of southeastern Africa in January 2021. It formed in the Mozambique Channel and quickly intensified, reaching Category 2 strength on the Saffir-Simpson Scale. Eloise brought heavy rainfall, strong winds, and storm surge to coastal areas, causing significant damage to infrastructure and displacing thousands of people. The storm weakened as it moved inland, but it continued to produce heavy rain and flooding in parts of Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and South Africa for several days. Eloise was the first named storm of the 2020-2021 Southwest Indian Ocean cyclone season.
