What was the political objective of the north and south in fighting the civil war

Answer:

The North was mostly concerned about the South not leaving, and then due to external factors such as the possibility that the South may receive aid from foreign powers the North decided to add slavery into the mix to prevent other countries from interfering. The South was concerned about States' Rights and eventually, it moved into Slavery + State's rights.
