you mentioned elemination aka substraction

so you when substract x - x = 0 -2y -( -y) = -y and 4 -2 = 2

so - y = 2

or y = 2

now substitute the numbers

x + 4 = 4

x = 0

and try it with one of the equation or sometimes trying on both of them can be very helpful
