Answer: 3 1/3

Explanation:

if the width of the rectangle is equal to “x” then the length is equal to 3x+2

The area is 40ft^2


so: 40=(3x+2)(x)

Then we simplify and subtract 40 in both sides:

0=3x^2+2x-40

Then we will use the quadratic formula to solve for x

X=(-2-sqr(2^2-4(3)(-40)))/2*3

And

X=(-2+sqr(2^2-4(3)(-40)))/2*3

then x is either equal to 3 1/3 or -4, since the answer cannot be negative, the answer is 3 1/3
