Young saw a distant interference pattern, which Lightwave added together at some point (making them brighter) and canceled each other out at other points (resulting in dark spots). What would Young have seen if light did not exhibit any wave characteristics

If light did not exhibit any wave characteristics, Young would not have observed an interference pattern. Instead, he would have seen a simple bright spot of light at the center of the screen, with no surrounding fringes or dark spots. The interference pattern is a direct result of the wave nature of light, and is a key piece of evidence supporting the wave theory of light.
