Answer:

(5 ± √(17)) ÷ 2

Explanation:

x² means just 1 multiplied by x². think of it as a '1' in front.

1 and -5 are coefficients. 2 is a constant (meaning it is not with either an x).

x is a variable.

the quadratic formula is:

x = (-b ± √(b² - 4ac) ÷ 2a)

where a is the value of the first coefficient, b is value of the second and c is value of the constant.

for our question:

x = (- (-5) ± √((-5)² - 4(1)(2)) ÷ 2(1)

= (5 ± √(25 - 8)) ÷ 2

= (5 ± √(17)) ÷ 2

This is our answer.

if required as decimal 0.438 and 4.56

Answer:

According to the type of formula:

Explanation:

Exact form: 5+√17/2, 5-√17/2

x=4.56155281. . ., 0.43844718. . . using the quadratic formula and just solving for x

Rounded ver: x=4.6, 0.4

Or if given anything else, there is no solution
