Read the passage from "Sailing To America."

After a rainy week at sea, Michael left steerage and walked up to the open deck. He had discovered a nook where he could be alone and breathe fresh sea air. From his pocket he took one of the pieces of paper Joseph had given him. He knew that his friend must have gotten them from their schoolmaster. "Write to me,” Joseph had pleaded.

Michael sharpened his pencil stub with his knife and began writing, "Dear Joseph, I miss you and our classes in the schoolmaster’s barn. The voyage has been boring, with little to fill our time, but my family and I are all well. That is the most important thing. I will keep my promise to write to you, and I will send you an address for writing back after we reach America.”

Which sentence should be included in a summary of the passage?

A. Michael climbed up to the open deck to get some air.

B. Michael wrote a letter to his friend Joseph.

C. Michael felt guilty that he hadn't yet written to Joseph.

D. Michael thought traveling was boring.
