Congress is the legislative branch of the federal government of the United States. It is made up of two houses: the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Senate is composed of 100 senators, two from each state, while the House of Representatives is made up of 435 members, apportioned among the states based on population.
Congress has the power to make laws, approve or reject presidential nominations for federal judges and executive branch officials, and to impeach and remove from office federal officials, including the president. It also has the power to declare war, regulate interstate and foreign commerce, and to appropriate funds for the operation of the government.
