There are 4 whole squares that we can see very clearly. Next, we have the cut squares. The bigger "cut" square added to the smaller "cut" square is equal to 1 square. There are two cut squares for each side of the trapezoid, but when you add them up they are 1 WHOLE square on each side. 4+1+1=6, therefore the answer is 6 square units.
