The dry conditions caused by climate change made the forests more susceptible to fires, which destroyed the orangutans' habitat and food sources. As a result, many orangutans were forced to search for food in areas where they were more likely to come into contact with humans, which put them at risk of being killed or captured. Additionally, the fires released large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, contributing to further climate change.
