Born in 1985, Rodrigo Santos grew up to be one of Brazil's top soccer defenders. Santos grew up as the oldest of five children, and there was always a pickup game of soccer going at the local park. Santos showed promise at an early age. He was a natural leader and was often left to take care of his younger siblings. By age seven, he was drawing up teams and organizing neighborhood games on his own. It seemed natural. At the age of 15, he was the player-coach of his team. He organized an inner-city soccer league when he was 18. He was a friendly teenager who used his charisma to entice community members to sponsor transportation and registration fees for tournaments.
